Municipality of Paxos after installing a wi fi net connection in Gaios, decided to expand the net to all the main island’s ports. After repairing the internet antenna on St Nicholas’ island, which was damaged by winter storms, the municipal authorities proceed to the expansion of the net to Lakka and Loggos, so that locals and visitors can have free internet access 24 hours a day. The particular activity is part of the “Information Society” program, which is currently developing in many municipalities of the Corfu prefecture and should be completed by the end of 2009. In relation with a few protests about antenna radiation and possible public health hazards, we were assured by experts that the particular antenna radiation is a lot smaller than that of a mobile phone one. Municipal authorities believe in free internet access and will continue working towards helping more and more locals familiarize themselves with internet.
