Free Guitar Seminar

"Poseidon" Municipal Cultural Association presents a guitar seminar on the 5th of September 2009, morning (12.00-14.00) and afternoon hours (19.00-21.00) at old Loggos school house by Michalis Sourvinos, a very well known classical guitar player in Greece. Guitar players of all levels are invited to participate.Admittance is free.
MICHAEL SOURVINOS:
Born in Athens-Greece. He studied Classical Guitar, Music Theory, Composition, Saxophone and Piano at “Southeastern College”. He took his Degree in Classical Guitar from the “Conservatory of Thessaloniki” in 1992, near professor Costas Cotsiolis. In 1993 he took his Degree in Music Theory from the “Athenaeum Conservatory” near professor Chr. Xanthoudakis. In 1994 he took his Diploma in Classical Guitar from the “Conservatory of Thessaloniki”, near professor Costas Cotsiolis.
He has attended the Postgraduate Diploma in Classical Guitar of “Piraeus Municipal Conservatory” from where he graduated in 1998 near professor Costas Cotsiolis.
He has also participated in masterclasses with: L. Brouwer (Cuba), P. Bellinati (Brazil), H.Kuppel (Germany), M. Socias (Spain), Z. Dukic (Yogoslavia).
As a solo guitar player he has performed with the “State Orchestra of Athens”, the “Greek Composers Union”, the “Orchestra of Colours”, the “String Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens”, the “Ionian University Orchestra”, conducted by L. Brouwer, Th.Antoniou, M.Logiadis, L. Karitinos, B. Fidetzis e.t.c.
He has performed as a soloist, at the “Las Palmas International Guitar Festival” (Canary Islands – Spain), the “Volos International Guitar Festival, the “Naxos International Guitar Festival”, the “Porto Heli International Festival”, the “International Nafplio Festival”, the “1st and 2nd International Guitar Festival of Megaron”, the “International Euro Art Meeting” at Wroclaw – Poland, the “Ph.Nakas Concert Hall”, at Vasteras (Sweeden) e.t.c.
He has also performed with various ensembles in Greece: Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, e.t.c and Abroad: Germany (Munich-Stugard), Switzerland (Zurich – Lausanne), Belgium, Turkey (Istanbul – Antaleia), Cyprus (Nicosia – Limassol – Paralimni), Egypt, France (Paris) e.t.c..
He has been awarded with the First Prize at the “Volos International Guitar Festival” in 1997, the First Prize at the 9th “Las Palmas Guitar Festival (Canary Islands - Spain) in 1998, the First Prize with the “Classical Mandolin Orchestra of Athens” at the 5th International Competition at Julich – Koslar (Germany) in 1998 and the Third Prize with “Romido Cuerda Quartet” at the International Guitar Competition at Osnabruck of Germany in 2004.
He has performed with popular Greek artists all over Greece, Cyprus and in several European Festivals. He has also taken part in various recordings and TV shows.
He performs at concerts in Greece and Abroad with Aliki Kagialoglou. They recently released a CD of poetry by F. Pessoa and Portuguese songs (Fados).
He has conducted masterclasses at the “ Volos – Naxos International Guitar Festival”, in Athens, Thessaloniki and at “The Music University of Vasteras-Stockholm”.
He has often participated as a committee member at International Guitar Competitions, (“Naxos International Guitar Festival”,”Athens Conservatory Competition – Filonas” e.t.c.). He has collaborated with numerous Conservatories, Music Schools in Greece and the Region.
He teaches Guitar and Mandolin at the Piraeus Municipal Conservatory, the Hellenic Conservatory, the Zografou Municipal Conservatory, the Central Conservatory of Athens and at the Contemporary Conservatory of Athens. Several of his students have been awarded in Classical Guitar Competitions.
He is a founding member and Art Director of “Athens Plucked Strings Ensemble.”
