Paxos is taking part

Date: 10/03/2010

"Earth hour' is an initiative by WWF which started in 2009 with great success. 88 countries all over the world and more than 4000 cities took part in this initiative against global warming and climate changes. Greece took part last year with more than 489 municipalities, 1649 businesses, 845 schools, 325 organizations etc, who turned off their lights for one hour cutting down on electricity demand by 500 MW during the first minutes of EarthHour, consequently avoiding to spend more than 500 tones of carbon dioxide.

Municipality of Paxos participated in EarthHour 2009. Except from turning off public lighting and lights in many homes, school children were also involved. They gathered with some of the Municipal Music School's teachers in Gaios square and played music in total darkness for an hour.

Paxos municipal authorities wish to also participate in EarthHour 2010 and invite everyone to turn off their lights for one hour on the 27th of March 2010 at 20.30. Environmental protection should become a way of life for all of us.
