Every year the mayor buys gifts for all the children at the school, but due to financial constraints this much appreciated gesture was in danger of not happening. However with some cuts in other areas, such as sending Christmas cards to overseas associates the children got their Xmas gifts after all. Fellow citizens in need also got their Christmas food parcels. The cultural association organized a christmas concert with the children's and adults choir right before Christmas and the philharmonic orchestra along with the music school choir sang new year carols in Gaios square right before New Year's Eve. Schools organized christmas fests with great success.
