Towards the end of January 2009 tension became high when the local Agricultural bank director announced the bank's failure in finding a new, suitable building in Gaios, since the one the bank is currently using has become problematic because of lack of proper maintanance. As a result the local bank would be forced to close down. Municipal authorities assisted by the local Commercial Association did all they could to help avoid such a situation. After many negotiations, a new building was finally found. It is located in Gaios on the waterfront, where the "Lighthouse" bar used to be. Renovation works have already started at this building. In the meantime the Agricultural bank will continue functioning at the old building.
