Salvator’s book “Paxos & Antipaxos”

Translated into English

A well loved inhabitant of Paxos, Mrs Margarita Luzzato announced early in November 2008 to the Mayor, Mr Spyros Bogdanos and to her English publisher that she has finally completed the translation of Archduke Ludwich Salvator’s book “Paxos and Antipaxos” from German into English. It took her almost 2 years to turn 400 densely written pages from 19nth century scholar German into modern English. M. Luzzato managed to overcome many problems regarding the actual translation but also setbacks in her every day life. She is always ready to describe, with great humor, to anyone interested in her effort how the original text was full of forgotten German as well as many French, Latin and Greek words; that it was written in the form of notes with many unfinished sentences. How she was introduced to the luxuries of a computer and printer, neither of which being very friendly to her in more than one occasion. How lightening loved to attack cables, phone, tv and other electric devices in her house. Being patient, persistent and dedicated, she is now proud to present the English version of “Paxos and Antipaxos”; a translation of high quality, in the same spirit with the Greek version of Salvator’s book by Datsolos, the Paxiot doctor and scholar at the beginning of the 20th century and full of almost every drawing of Paxos locations, that Salvator had so lovingly prepared by hand in the original book. Margarita’s personal touch of Salvator’s work turned it into a truly interesting read for every English speaking Paxos enthousiast. We are looking forward to searching for Margarita’s book on the bookshelves by the summer of 2009 and to seeing tourists with her book in hand, walking our island’s paths, searching for the particular bell towers, churches, olive trees, stone houses described meticulously in the book, in a local history, architecture and traditions’ hunt through time. ...
